You Knew I Was Going To Say Something...

Mario lost? MARIO LOST?!?!

OK, OK, Emmitt seemed like a sweet guy and he clearly worked very hard. I have to give credit where credit is due. Still, did the caliber of dance Emmitt brought to the competition match Mario's? I truly, and as objectively as possible, don't think so. If you look at Tuesday night's performance and the dance they each had to do to the same song, the difference is clear. Emmitt kept it smooth and simple - which looked good - but Mario's footwork was much more complex. Often, Emmitt would kind of shuffle around while Cheryl did the impressive stuff, but Mario was right out there with Karina every step of the way. (I had planned on showing you clips to prove my point, but the old VCR I have hooked to the computer really struggles with new tapes for some reason.) But, Emmitt was kind of an underdog and people tend to vote for that. Maybe they felt like Mario had some sort of dancing advantage and they were trying to even the playing field (a fact I'm not helping to dispel with my video clips. Hey, video doesn't lie.) I'm still kind of angry about it though. I proclaimed to Mike that I wasn't watching it again next year. He told me I was lying. Seriously, though, it's frustrating to watch good dancers get booted off while more popular (less talented) dancers get voted back. It's nothing more than a popularity contest and that frustrates me (hey, as much as I posted about Mario here, there was more than once where I gave Joey the majority of my votes because I felt like he deserved them.)
I need some consolation, so I'm posting my favorite dance number from Kids Inc. in its entirety (instead of just showing the Mario parts.) I love this number and I love this episode and I need that kind of comfort viewing right now. Plus, this is extra fun for any Fergie/Martika/Rahsaan Patterson fans out there (which is pretty much no one who reads my blog.) As I was capturing this clip, I found another song with Mario at the piano (notice I didn't say "playing".) I'm posting a few fun little screen grabs from that as well. Click on them to see the full-size version.

Mario, you're my Dancing With The Stars champion.

To tell you exactly what's going on in this clip would take way, way too long
